Tips on business cards

When approaching or meeting a new potential customer or client then it is likely that you will probably reach for your business cards to share your contact details. It's therefore important that your business cards give the correct impression & convey the significance of you & the company you represent. Below are a few tips worth following and a short video of the etiquette of handing over a card.

Tips

  1. Make sure that your details are correct on your card. Proofing your details is really really important and worth doing twice. It's always the simple things such as mobile phone numbers in which can be transposed. Check at least twice before going to print.

  2. Be creative not only in the design but also in your written text (Within reason). You can certainly have a little fun with job titles but it is important to be professional. The same with the design. There are some good template designs that you can do yourself but at the end of the day these are templates & unless you are a designer expect a hit and miss result. It makes more sense to ask a professional so you have artwork that will work across the brand of your company. Besides do you want to know the difference between CYMK & RGB and if files are EPS or JPG?

  3. Make sure your website & email address are prominent. Key point is to make sure that your logo is also printed using the vector (EPS) file rather than a JPG to ensure you get crisp print.

  4. Add in your social media details. If you have a facebook page then why not add in the page name (make sure you've created it!) such as /talkdesignandprint

  5. Material is very important on your cards. We tend to print onto 350gsm and 400gsm with a matt laminate. Don't go thinner and if you need something special then handing over a 810gsm made of three layers will certainly create a good impression. The next time you hand over a card you will notice most people tend to feel the card between their fingers even if it is subconcious.

  6. Don't forget you can use both sides of the card and also throw away any old and tatty cards that have been in your pocket too long.
